Want to lower your cholesterol even more? Think again.

Cholesterol is a carrier for the transport of fat-soluble nutrients like vitamin E and the family of carotenoids (lutein, lycopene, beta carotene).  Lutein, a nutrient that is heralded for its ability to protect the retina of the eye from solar radiation damage, is preferentially transported to the eyes and skin as an internal sunscreen agent on LDL cholesterol, called “bad” cholesterol.  [Journal Lipid Research Aug 18, 2016]
