Vitamin A is a risk factor for macular degeneration

Every morning upon awakening the photoreceptors at the back of the eyes shed their used up vitamin A.  This discarded vitamin A becomes the very substance of macular drusen, yellow aging spots that are detected in the visual center of the eyes (macula).  [Acta Ophthalmologica Nov 2016]
