Sugary drinks double the risk for cancer

Why has it taken so long to show sugary drinks increase the risk for cancer?  After all, sugar is the primary growth factor for cancer cells.

A 13-year study of 70,000 adults shows two soda pops or juice drinks a day double the risk for gallbladder cancer and increase bile duck cancer by 79%.  [Daily Mail UK July 14, 2016; European Journal Nutrition Feb 2016]

Why don’t we call an iced high-fructose-sweetened soda pop “cancer on the rocks?”  Straw included.
