Penicillin allergy?

Many people declare they are allergic to penicillin.  According to a recent report published at MedScape, approximately 10% of US adults claim they had an allergic reactions to penicillin in the past but only 1% of the population actually has a true allergic reaction to this antibiotic.  Pediatrician Katherine Fleming-Dutra says many people who report penicillin allergy had side effects or symptoms of an underlying illness.  Dr. Fleming-Dutra says about 80% of patients with a penicillin allergy lose their sensitivity 10 years after their initial reaction.  [Medscape Sept 8, 2016]
