Book readers will live longer than those individuals who read newspapers or magazines. In a study of unique interest, book readers were found to have a 20% reduction in risk for mortality over a 12-year period compared to non-book readers. This conclusion was drawn after adjustments for age, sex, race, education, wealth and marital status. Book readers had a 23-month survival advantage in this study of 3635 retirees.
