Is ablation for atrial fibrillation just an elaborate placebo?

When your heart flutters, doctors sometimes destroy heart muscle tissue to intentionally create scars that calm a jumpy heart in a procedure called ablation.  Cardiologist John Mandrola points out that ablation for atrial fibrillation makes no impact on all-cause mortality (it doesn’t save lives) and it doesn’t get rid of atrial fibrillation altogether and it may be no better than placebo!  [Medscape]
