In Heart Failure, Avoid Drugs Like Ibuprofen Says American Heart Assn.

Patients with heart failure, which often is after damage has occurred to heart muscle following a heart attack, should avoid anti-inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen and other herbal products like licorice, green tea, St. John’s wort and ginseng that may worsen symptoms. Some herbal products may cause the patient to hold more salt and water and make it more difficult to pump blood, says the American Heart Association. Patients in heart failure are advised to weigh themselves daily to see if they are experiencing water retention. [Daily Mail UK July 11, 2016; Eureka Alert July 11, 2016]
