Some adults don’t want to live longer than the average lifespan because they can’t imagine how they would cope with the many debilitations posed by old age. The results of a recently published survey reveals desire to live long was not influenced by age, gender or education. Strikingly, African-American participants were the most likely to want to live 100 years or more. As one researcher concluded, after data showed about a third of adults who were surveyed said they didn’t want to live longer than the average life expectancy (about 80 years), that the fear of old age outweighs the fear of dying” for many people.
