Calorie restricted diets, exercise and combination of both produce similar weight loss

Calorie restricted diets, exercise and a combination of both reduce body weight by about 7%.  The decline in lifetime risk for cardiovascular disease was about the same in all three groups (-36 to -46% risk).  Total cholesterol dropped ~17 points.  [American Journal Clinical Nutrition July 27, 2016]

Another recent study shows modern calorie restriction (-25% calories) reduces markers of inflammation significantly (-40% C-reactive protein, -50% tumor necrosis factor (TNF).  Calorie restriction without malnutrition does not impair immunity. [Aging July 2016]
