Americans are backing away from soda pop, but not sugar

Consumption of cane sugar (sucrose) and corn syrup (fructose) is down 15% since 1999 when Americans consume 111 grams of sugar a day (423 calories or 2 cans of Coke).   Sugar consumption is now down to 94 grams/day (358 calories), which is higher than 87 grams consumed in 1970.  [Daily Mail UK Sept 20, 2016]
